What does "raising up a leader" mean for my church?

"Raising up a leader" means that your church body is committing to sponsor a Leadership Development Program student. Like our Child Sponsorship Program, your church will have the opportunity to connect with this child through letters, meet your student, pray for them, and be their biggest advocate to succeed in this program.


What does the Leadership Development Program provide?

Compassion’s Leadership Development Program launches outstanding graduates from our Child Sponsorship Program into their full, God-given potential. They are equipped with a university degree, matched with a mature Christian mentor to guide and support them, and receive training on 24 leadership topics through seminars, leadership camps, and evangelistic crusades.


What is the cost to sponsor an Leadership Development Program student?

The cost to sponsor a Leadership Development Program student is only $300 a month, $3,600 a year, or about $18,000 over the course of 5 years.


What are some ways that my church can sponsor a Leadership Development Program student?

There are many ways that our church partners are currently sponsoring Leadership Development Program students.

Below are some ideas on how your church can raise support:

  • Once a year, take up a one time special offering.
  • Sponsor through your church missions budget.
  • Place a change box in a high traffic area and encourage your church members to drop their change in this box after service. $300 a month could be as little as $.25 cents per person, per week, for a 300 member church.
  • Sponsorship could come from one of your growth groups or leadership teams. For example, one of your men’s groups, college ministry groups, or church leadership groups could pool together their resources to sponsor a student. With a group sponsorship, we do recommend there being a designated correspondent to speak on behalf of the group.
